Sexual Abuse
This page is dedicated to all unheard victims of sexual abuse within our communities, all around the country and indeed all over the world. Many victims are groomed from an early age , a lot of these from early infancy, to accomodate sexual perverted practices. More often than not the perpetrators are pillars of the community and enjoy an elevated position of power. Frenquently perpetrators are family members. This house believes that it is not "unprofessional" to voice outrage at such atrocities. The victims, both male and female, are emotionally manipulated, coerced into submission and intimidated by their perpetrators. The victims are lead to believe that they themselves are misbehaving and/or have themselves initiated and invited sexual attention. The victims often present obvious - or barely only perceptable symptoms, whereby the observer may jump to wrong conclusions or choose denial of such indications of evil. Paedophiles are criminals - no more and no less - and nothing can justify such wrong against children and vulnerable young people.
This house believes that more attention is focussed on the perpetartor than on the victims and would like to see that reversed in ALL cases .
It is not uncommon (but neither is it inevitable) for victims to use similar methods of interaction and so a vicious circle developes. The victim - when identified must be able to avail of counselling and help with a minimum of daunting red tape. The chain of abuse needs to be broken and the abused individual empowered. The first step toward seeking help and understanding is the most difficult. Fear is a factor which dominates all abuse -victim's choices. In fact the abuse- victim is often convinced they may have no choice at all. This is what the perpetrator likes them to believe and it certainly does take courage to take the first step out of the vicious circle.

Crisis Intervention
Crisis intervention is about dealing with an extreme situation as early as possible after it's occurence. Most of us believe that if we pick ourselves up and "move on" without dealing with the traumatising experience, that it will have less power over us and be soon forgotten. In some cases that may be the perfect solution but in many cases the acute crisis becomes a chronic crisis.
Subsequent stressfull situations cannot be met adequately and little things can trigger a huge reaction leaving friends and family baffled. That is what CAN happen and it's important to be aware of the connection to the initial Trauma.
